S.F. No. 1552 - Providing for Payment of City Charter Commission Expenses (with Adoption of A-1 Author's Amendment)

Author: Senator Carolyn Laine

Prepared By: Joan White, Senate Counsel (651/296-3814)

Date: March 2, 2020

S.F. No. 1552 modifies the amount a city is authorized to pay for expenses associated with framing or revising a home rule charter.  Current law allows up to $10,000 for a city of the first class, and $1,500 for any other city.  The bill allows the greater of .07 percent of the city's current certified general property tax levy or $1,500, not to exceed $20,000.  This bill also updates archaic language.
