Under current federal law, the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission requires plant owners to set aside funds to pay for the costs of decommissioning after a plant has closed. Nuclear decommissioning reserve funds (Funds) are subject to federal and state tax on their interest and distributions. This bill would add Funds to the group of entities exempt from income or corporate franchise tax, effective beginning in tax year 2019.
