Background
Sunscreen is considered an over-the-counter medication by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. As an over-the-counter medication, many schools require a physician’s note for students to possess and use sunscreen at school.
Section 1. Possession and Use of Sunscreen. Permits a school district to allow a student to possess and apply a topical sunscreen during the school day, while on school property, or at a school-sponsored event without a physician’s note. Allows a school district to adopt a policy on student possessing and use of sunscreen consistent with the section. Clarifies that school personnel are not required to provide or apply sunscreen.
