Under the Constitution, the salaries of legislators are set by the Legislative Salary Council. The legislature has no authority to modify the salary prescribed by the Council.
SF 2523 creates open statutory appropriations to pay legislator salaries prescribed by the Legislative Salary Council, including the salary-based expenses of employer constributions for FICA and retirement plans. The appropriations are annual and are from the general fund.
