Section 1. P-TECH Schools. Establishes P-TECH schools as public-private partnerships that will prepare students for high-skill jobs in growing industries.
Subdivision 1. Outlines the five core benefits to students as a cost-free STEM-focused education for students in grades 9-14 that includes workplace learning, individualized academic support and pace, the opportunity to earn an associate’s degree, and a commitment that students will be first in line for a job with the participating business partners upon program completion.
Subd 2. Provides five objectives a P-TECH school must accomplish to ensure students receive the five core benefits. Objectives include aligning the school, college, and business community to develop and promote pathways of study in high-wage, high-skill, and high-demand career areas, providing support to students to encourage strong academic performance, and ensuring business partners have access to a skilled workforce.
Effective Date. Effective the day following final enactment
Section 2. Appropriation. Provides a blank appropriation to the Commissioner of Education for fiscal years 2020 and 2021 to establish P-TECH schools.
