1.3    "Sec. 25. Minnesota Statutes 2022, section 97B.036, is amended to read:
1.497B.036 CROSSBOW HUNTING DURING FIREARMS SEASON AND ARCHERY
1.5SEASONS.
1.6    Notwithstanding section 97B.035, subdivisions 1 and 2, a person may take deer, bear,
1.7or turkey by crossbow during the respective firearms and archery seasons. The transportation
1.8requirements of section 97B.051 apply to crossbows during the firearms and archery deer,
1.9bear, or turkey season. Crossbows must meet the requirements of section 97B.106,
1.10subdivision 2. A person taking deer, bear, or turkey by crossbow under this section must
1.11have a valid license to take the respective game by firearm or bow. This section does not
1.12allow the use of a crossbow by licensed muzzleloader hunters during the muzzleloader
1.13firearms deer season under section 97B.311.

1.14    Sec. 26. Minnesota Statutes 2022, section 97B.037, is amended to read:
1.1597B.037 CROSSBOW HUNTING; AGE 60 OR OVER.
1.16Notwithstanding section 97B.035, subdivisions 1 and 2, a person age 60 or over may
1.17take deer, bear, turkey, or rough fish by crossbow during the respective regular archery
1.18seasons. The transportation requirements of section 97B.051 apply to crossbows during the
1.19regular archery deer, bear, turkey, or rough fish season. Crossbows must meet the
1.20requirements of section 97B.106, subdivision 2. A person age 60 or over taking deer, bear,
1.21turkey, or rough fish by crossbow under this section must have a valid license to take the
1.22respective game.
1.23EXPIRATION DATE.This section expires on June 30, 2025."

1.25    "Sec. 60. ANALYSIS OF CROSSBOW HUNTING'S EFFECT ON DEER
1.26POPULATION.
1.27By October 1, 2025, the commissioner of natural resources must submit to the chairs
1.28and ranking minority members of the house of representatives and senate committees and
1.29divisions with jurisdiction over the environment and natural resources an analysis of the
1.30effect that allowing persons who are under age 60 to hunt with a crossbow during regular
1.31archery seasons has had on the deer population in this state."
