1.1Senator Dahms moved to amend Senate Resolution No. 15 as follows (...):
1.2Page 2, after line 9, insert:
1.3"WHEREAS, the safety and security of Minnesotans depends on a well-trained and
1.4well-funded law enforcement presence to uphold the rule of law, protect communities,
and
1.5respond to emergencies; and
1.6WHEREAS, efforts to defund the police have led to reductions in law enforcement
1.7budgets in various cities across the nation, resulting in increased crime, slower
emergency
1.8response times, and diminished public safety; and
1.9WHEREAS, law enforcement officers put their lives on the line every day to serve and
1.10protect their communities, and efforts to reduce funding undermine their ability to
perform
1.11their duties effectively; and
1.12WHEREAS, defunding police departments disproportionately harms vulnerable
1.13communities, including low-income neighborhoods and communities of color; and
1.14WHEREAS, though accountability measures are necessary to ensure law enforcement
1.15agencies operate fairly and justly, dismantling and defunding police departments is
a reckless
1.16policy that puts Minnesotans at risk; and
1.17WHEREAS, the Minnesota Senate recognizes that strong and well-supported police
1.18forces are essential to maintaining law and order, preventing violence, and ensuring
justice
1.19for victims of crime; and"
1.20Page 2, after line 12, insert:
1.21"BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Senate of the State of Minnesota condemns
1.22any efforts to defund the police and reaffirms its commitment to supporting law enforcement,
1.23enhancing public safety, and ensuring that all Minnesotans can live and work in secure
1.24communities."
1.25The motion prevailed. #did not prevail. So the amendment was #not adopted.
