S.F. No. 578 - “Townhouse” Definition Modification

Author: Senator Rich Draheim

Prepared By: Carlon D. Fontaine, Senate Counsel (651/296-4395)

Date: February 20, 2017

S.F. No. 420 adds the term “townhouse” to the definitions applicable to the State Building Code.  Defines the term to mean a single-family dwelling constructed in a group of three or more attached units in which each unit extends from the foundation to the roof and has open space on a least two sides of each unit.  Minnesota Rules, 1309.0202, section R202, provides a definition of “townhouse” as a single-family dwelling constructed “in a group of two or more attached units.” The remainder of the definition in the bill is the same as the current definition in the rule.
